2009 Nomination Form (PDF)

Who should apply?
If you live and/or work in DeKalb County and are:

  • Experienced in or committed to service to the community, or
  • A community or civic volunteer, or
  • An emerging or established leader in your profession, then you may want to apply.

Leadership DeKalb celebrates the richness of our county’s diversity and we seek members who represent our varied cultural and ethnic groups. Each class reflects the cultural and ethnic diversity of our dynamic community. Adults of all ages are encouraged to apply.

How do you apply?
You may be nominated by one of our graduates, or you may apply by downloading the application form and completing it. Return it to us via mail or deliver to the Leadership DeKalb office by March 12, 2008. We do not accept applications sent via e-mail or fax.

A $25 non-refundable application fee must be submitted with the application.

RE: Member Nominations Only
Members may download the Nomination Form from our Web site and return the completed nomination form via e-mail or fax to Leadership DeKalb by January 31, 2008. We will then mail a Leadership DeKalb Application to your nominee. Your nominee's completed application must be postmarked no later than March 12, 2008.

What can you expect from training?
During the ten-month program, class members learn about a wide range of issues facing DeKalb, build leadership skills and begin networking across the DeKalb community. Between Orientation and Closing Retreat, there are seven full-day sessions on topics including DeKalb’s government; health, educational and justice systems; diversity; quality of life and more. Class members ride a shift with a DeKalb County police officer, attend governmental meetings and budget hearings. Monthly study groups enhance dialogue, promote discussion and develop friendships.

Class sessions are usually held on the third Thursday of each month from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

How much does it cost?
Tuition is $2600 for the 10-month program. Tuition is due in full by May 15, 2008.

A limited number of partial financial hardship scholarships (not exceeding $450 each) are available. To apply for a scholarship, please attach a letter to your application describing the need for the financial assistance.

A limited number of guaranteed Corporate slots are available for $3600. Corporations that want to ensure annual participation in the Leadership DeKalb program may apply for these positions. Please contact the Executive Director for information about the availability and requirements.

How are members selected?
A committee of Leadership DeKalb graduates selects about 45 – 50 people each year to represent all aspects of the DeKalb community: business, non-profits, education, government, religion, the arts, and community volunteers from all of DeKalb’s ethnic and racial groups. A demonstrated commitment to community service is a major selection criterion.

Nominations for the Class of 2009 begin in December 2007. The members of the Class of 2009 will be named in April 2008. The Class will begin in September 2008 and graduate in the summer of 2009.

We reflect and celebrate the richness of the cultural
